Youtube Profile Field 3.1

My Youtube Profile Field plugin has just had a major update. The plugin, which allows you to automatically display your latest Youtube videos on your site, is now at version 3.1.

The biggest front-end change is the use of the native WordPress video player, which since 3.9 has been able to play Youtube videos.
This means that the videos will match your theme even better – especially if you use a theme like Cycnus, as shown below:

Behind the scenes

Most of the changes has happened behind the scenes.

The plugin no longer uses the Youtube API v2 feed after Google recently announced that they are deprecating the v2 API and it will stop working on April 20, 2015. What used to be possible with a single RSS feed now requires 3 different API requests. Thanks, Google.

Despite the extra API requests, the new version is actually much faster than the old version. The videos are being saved in a transient for 24 hours, and the channel ID and playlist ID is saved to the user meta so those two requests only runs if the username has been changed.

Hope you enjoy the new version. If you spot a bug or have a question, feel free to write a comment or make a thread on the support forum.
